The 12th Annual Lonestar Round Up was held in April in Austin, TX at the Travis County Expo Center. Of course they have hundreds o fcustom and vintage hot rods, but they also have pin up girls, tattoo artists, bands, great food from downtown Austin, and much more! My favorite boutique from here in Killeen, Sew She Said, ran by an extremely talented seamstress, was there with the pop-up pin-up couture boutique getting ladies all pin-up pretty.
I had the opportunity to do a little "Photo Geeks Day Out" with a good friend of mine from college. He was recently returned home from a deployment and doing a little site-seeing - of course I took him to this great festival. If I'd gone to this with the intent of taking hundreds of photos with anyone other than another photo geek... I would have been horrible company and my husband would have either A) left me there, or B) thrown an 8 year old style tantrum until we left. It was so nice to not only see my friend, but to have a photo buddy who didn't mind waiting while I'd take 50 photos of the same car.
Here is a "round up" (get it, it's punny!) of my favorite photos from this day. I used my 50mm prime lens (the "nifty fifty") for the whole day. On a crop sensor camera you have to get REALLY far back to get a whole car in a shot. I knew I'd be challenged with the tight areas but I went in with the hope of getting some great close-up/macro shots like these.
