The Texas GSP Rescue is 501(c)(3) non-profit that fosters and permanently places abandoned German Shorthaired Pointers (GSPs) in safe, loving homes. This is a 100% volunteer ran rescue, and I have the pleasure of being not only a volunteer photographer but the adopter of a Texas GSP Rescue Alumni named Boone. I met another Texas GSP Rescue volunteer at my local dog park one day who told me about the rescue and the work they were doing. I was stunned to discover that there was an organization rescuing almost 200 GSPs a year in Texas. I couldn’t look at my own spotted goof ball laying contently on my couch any longer without thinking of what he would look like dumped alongside the road. I volunteered immediately.I can’t foster or adopt them all but I can use my camera lens to help them wiggle way into someone’s heart and home.
I love watching my photos go up on the rescue’s Facebook page and then seeing the “Adopted!” notice posted within a few days. Seeing how often a photo is shared through social media is an amazing reminder of the power of a great photograph. Getting down on their level, capturing the sparkle in their eyes, and showing their goofy dog smiles is so much more powerful than a quick cell phone picture taken inside an isolate shelter fence. These dogs are resilient and bounce back almost immediately in the home of their fosters - a clear, sharp photograph is the best way to show the state of Texas that they are ready to have their fresh start.
Currently, I attend all the Austin area play dates for candid photographs of the adoptable, adopted, and ally GSPs and English Pointers (through the rescue’s sister organization The Pointer Project.) I also do at-home and on-location portrait sessions for fostered GSPs and English Pointers within the Waco/Killeen/Temple area and Austin as needed. Please share these photos and let me know if you need any help in downloading a photo.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have are a rescue in the Fort Hood area that needs pet photography services - every dog deserves a loving, safe home and sometimes all they need is one good photo!
My photos below are some of the highlights from the Austin area play dates as well as any GSPs and English Pointers available for adoption. I post all photos from dog park play dates on my Google+ page for easy downloading and have these blog posts from play dates and individual portrait sessions.
